MedTech Growth Plan: Technology as the Key to Future Proof Healthcare
The Dutch MedTech sector has launched an ambitious growth plan aiming to position the Netherlands among Europe’s top MedTech countries by 2035. The MedTech Growth Plan, presented to State Secretary Judith Tielen and Tjerk Opmeer, shows how technology can strengthen both healthcare and the economy.
Impact in Numbers
If the necessary conditions are met, the sector can deliver within ten years:
- ~11,000 new high-tech jobs
- €5 billion in additional annual exports
- ~75 new start-ups and scale-ups
- And most importantly: a healthcare system capable of meeting rising demand
Urgency Driven by Dual Ageing
With more and more complex patients, combined with a shrinking healthcare workforce, technological innovation is essential. The adoption of AI, digitalisation and labour‑saving technologies could reduce healthcare costs by up to €22 billion, while easing the burden on professionals.
Strong Foundation, but Acceleration Needed
The Netherlands benefits from world-class universities, hospitals and high-tech companies. Still, the country risks falling behind. Improved data access, AI infrastructure, clinical testing capacity, clearer regulations and increased production and innovation power are crucial for staying competitive internationally.
A Broad Call to Action
Leaders from across the sector including Philips, Erasmus MC, UMC Utrecht, TNO, HighTechXL, TU Delft and FME, emphasise that technology is a strategic investment. Only through collaboration and urgency can the Netherlands become a leading MedTech hub.
Usono and MedTech Growth Plan
