Who are you?
My name is Jur Vellema. I am 52 years old, live in Eindhoven, and have a wife and two children.
What experience did you have before joining Usono?
I am an orthopaedic surgeon, specialised in sports medicine, with a clinical focus on (arthroscopic) shoulder treatments and surgeries, as well as hip replacement procedures. Alongside my clinical work, I have always been driven by innovation and improving quality of life through healthcare solutions.Earlier in my career, I was involved as VEO at “Gezond is Beter”, a company that developed an app aimed at improving quality of life through practical tips and lifestyle guidance. For the last six years, I was Chief Medical Officer and Founder of Alphabeats, a company focused on optimising mental performance through music‑driven neurofeedback training. A great product that eventually unfortunately did not make it through a Series A funding round in the US. We were able to raise ultimately 4M $ in funding nonetheless.
In addition, I remain closely involved with ViaSana Clinic, where innovation, multidisciplinary collaboration and evidence‑based care are central. This environment has strongly shaped my vision on how technology should truly support clinicians.
What is your current role at Usono?
At Usono, I will work as Chief Medical Officer. My role is to help define the most successful medical approach towards the market. That means understanding what doctors, physiotherapists, and performance coaches need and expect in daily practice and translating those needs into clear priorities for product development. Alignment between clinical relevance, scientific credibility, and technological innovation is key.
Why did you choose to work at Usono?
I believe ProbeFix Dynamic is a powerful hardware solution that truly enables functional ultrasound. It allows us to move beyond static imaging and start understanding what happens during movement.I am also genuinely excited about the software platform that will gradually be shared with the world later this year. When hardware, software and clinical insight come together, I truly believe the sky is the limit.
What has been your best experience so far?
I feel extremely welcome at Usono and I am happy to join a team with so many people with different skills. There is a strong sense of shared ambition, curiosity and openness, which is essential when you want to build something groundbreaking.
What excites you most about the future of ProbeFix?
Beyond the current applications, I see enormous potential in sports performance an area closely connected to my work at Alphabeats. Understanding function under load, during training and recovery, is where real value can be created for athletes and support staff.Equally important is the ambition to set up scientific research, build stronger clinical evidence, and collaborate closely with doctors and researchers. Only by deeply understanding why and when functional ultrasound adds value can we truly improve diagnostics, rehabilitation and return‑to‑play decisions.
Why should people contact you?
Feel free to reach out to me with questions, ideas or challenges. I strongly believe that the best products are created when perspectives collide. Let’s challenge each other to build the best possible solution, from every angle.
