Meet our Usono Team Member: Aukje Brekelmans

From Top-Level Sports to Ultrasound Innovation: Aukje Brekelmans’ Journey to Usono
Aukje Brekelmans, 41 years old, mother of two, living in Deurne, the Netherlands. From a young age, sports were her passion, whether playing or watching. She started with tennis and later transitioned to field hockey, competing at a top level in the Netherlands. But her ambition extended beyond the field.

While studying physiotherapy, Aukje discovered another path: working with elite athletes. A mentor once wrote in a card, “Talent helps, but not as much as ambition.” That phrase stuck with her and became a guiding principle. She chose to prioritize her education and long-term goals over a full-time sports career.

A Career Built on Experience and Curiosity
In her third year of study, Aukje received a job offer, before even graduating. Since then, she has specialized in various areas, including (top) sports orthopedic rehabilitation, working with young athletes, post-operative care, and complex trauma recovery. In 2019, she discovered MSK ultrasound, and it immediately sparked her interest. “What an amazing tool to use in my work as a physical therapist,” she says.

At PECE Zorg in Eindhoven, she found a workplace that inspired her. Surrounded by a fantastic team and a diverse patient base, she deepened her expertise in ultrasound-guided treatments like shockwave therapy and percutaneous electrolysis, techniques that allow her to not only visualize but also treat muscles, tendons, fascia, and bursae.

Joining Usono
On September 16, 2024, PECE Zorg and Usono began a collaboration. Aukje got the chance to work with the Probefix Dynamic, an innovative tool for dynamic ultrasound scanning. During a workshop on March 27, 2025, she shared her insights with fellow physiotherapists , a night that changed everything.

She was invited to the Isokinetic Conference in Madrid, where she presented to 50 doctors. Then came the job offer: a role at Usono. Since June 1, 2025, Aukje has officially been part of the team as a Clinical Application Specialist. “I couldn’t say no,” she says. “It’s an opportunity to share my clinical expertise and contribute to ultrasound innovation.”

Why Usono?
For Aukje, Usono is more than just a company. “Everyone here has inspiring energy,” she shares. “My work as an MSK sonographer in physiotherapy aligns perfectly with Usono’s mission. I get the chance to grow , as a person, a therapist, a sonographer, and a specialist.”

Highlights and Dreams
Her top experience so far? The Isokinetic Conference in Madrid. “The atmosphere, the location, Atlético Madrid’s stadium. It was unforgettable.”
But she’s not done dreaming. Her goal? To play a key role in a (inter)national sports team. And with Usono, that dream feels closer than ever.

Why Reach Out to Aukje?
“My patients struggle with movement, so why not use dynamic ultrasound scanning to understand their functional issues?” Aukje invites professionals to explore the possibilities Usono offers, not just in sports, but across healthcare.

Final Message: Let’s Make a Difference
“Let’s truly make a difference together,” Aukje concludes. “So reach out, and come out from under that rock!”
